Wine Tasting Event
St. Mark’s Orthodox Church
August 22, 2009
The IOCC Metropolitan Committee of Washington, DC held its annual Wine Tasting Event on Saturday, August, 22, 2009, at Saint Mark Orthodox Church in Bethesda, MD. Despite the rainy weather, nearly 50 guests gathered together to enjoy delicious wines of the Mediterranean and a multitude of appetizers and desserts. A beautiful Vespers service was provided prior to the event.
The highlight of the event was our speaker, IOCC staff member Pascalis Papouras, who shared personal experiences of his time abroad. His reflections on people’s initial reactions to foreigners brought laughter to the room, as he recounted how he dismantled stereotypes. One such experience involved being confronted by several intimidatingly-looking men, who changed their stance from defensive to embracing once they learned he was a brother in Christ.
The event was a delight, as there were an abundance of good food, good wine, and good company.
A special thank you to Fr. Gregory Safchuk, who provided essential support and assistance, and to the volunteers and committee members who helped make the event successful. We hope to see you next year!
