Frank (not his real name) is a retired veteran living in Florida who served in the Vietnam War. Suffering from chronic vertigo, the loss of his wife, and unstable income, Frank was already in a vulnerable condition when Hurricane Helene hit in 2024. It was during the hurricane that his home was severely damaged by a falling tree that crashed onto the back of his house and porch.
Because of the damage and the severity of his vertigo, Frank did not feel he could safely exit his home — and so for two long years, he didn’t step foot outside.
That’s when IOCC stepped in to help. IOCC, along with Starfish Disaster Recovery, was able to repair the damaged back entrance and install railings so Frank could safely leave his home. On the day the railings were installed, Frank stepped outside for the first time in two years!
