Jordan is an agricultural society, but many people there struggle to make a decent living. Raising animals is one path to self-sufficiency for Jordanian families in poor, rural areas. Cows, goats, and chickens provide food for their owners and a source of income, since milk and eggs can be sold at market. Your symbolic gift of $3,500 is enough to provide a family with one cow, or three goats, or 18 chickens, plus feed for six months and training for their new owners in caring for them and marketing their products locally.
