Our Purpose

Inspired by Faith. Driven by Purpose.

As the humanitarian relief and development agency of the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States of America, IOCC works in cooperation with the Orthodox Church and other partners to serve people in need.

In the spirit of Christ’s love, IOCC offers emergency relief and development programs to those in need worldwide, without discrimination, and strengthens the capacity of the Orthodox Church to so respond. We envision that, by God’s grace, IOCC will equip those suffering and in need to continue to improve their own lives and communities and to have means to live with dignity, respect, and hope.

Since its inception in 1992, IOCC has provided more than $771 million in humanitarian relief and sustainable development programs to people facing hardship. All assistance is provided solely on the basis of need. Current programs focus on emergency preparedness and response; sustainable livelihoods; water, sanitation, and hygiene; health; and food security and agriculture in places including Ethiopia, Greece, Lebanon, Syria, Uganda, and the United States.

How We Work—And Put Your Donations to Work

IOCC staff assesses and identifies needs, develops plans, manages operations, tracks grants, guides programs, and ensures reporting and transparency. IOCC is governed by an elected Board of Directors and managed by an Executive Director and Executive Team. In carrying out its mission, IOCC applies the highest professional standards and renders itself fully accountable to the public and its donors.

IOCC is committed to working with the most affected communities to identify appropriate short- and long-term responses to their needs.

How We’re Funded

IOCC funds programs and activities through a combination of its own resources and grants. We’re registered with the US Agency for International Development and eligible to receive funds for foreign assistance from the US government. We’re members of InterAction, a coalition of US-based nongovernmental organizations that provide humanitarian assistance programs overseas. In carrying out its programs, IOCC is committed to abiding by International Humanitarian Law, including humanitarian standards and principles.
