Gaza: Rahaf Rediscovers Childhood

IOCC Gaza Rahaf

Rahaf (not her real name) and her family of seven have faced repeated forced displacements in Gaza. Living with multiple disabilities, including deteriorating eyesight, Rahaf’s daily life has been profoundly impacted by the ongoing conflict. She joined 20 of IOCC’s structured “recreational days,” which are specifically designed to provide a secure environment for emotional healing through play and creative arts. The program carefully supplements these interactive social sessions with the distribution of nutritious snacks and educational gifts to address the children’s physical and developmental needs.

Through this integrated approach, the IOCC project actively helps Rahaf and other conflict-affected children rebuild vital social connections and reclaim a sense of stability. The positive impact on Rahaf’s well-being is clear. “I joined the recreational activities where I played games, drew, danced, and took part in competitions. We also received snacks and small gifts. This made me feel happy and less sad,” she said. “My family noticed that I became calmer and cried less. Now I feel more confident and enjoy spending time with other children.”
