Economic instability in Greece has put pressure on communities to adapt to a changing marketplace. At the AKMI Vocational School in Athens, IOCC is helping women with limited educational access gain the skills and knowledge necessary to compete.
Recently, the program (supported by IOCC and implemented by partner Apostoli) provided professional training in hairdressing, manicure, and pedicure to twenty-five local and migrant women. After their training, they were provided with certificates of completion verified by the University of Thessaloniki.
“Today is a very happy day for me. For the first time I got certification in a field that I wanted to pursue since I was young. Now it will be much easier to qualify for a job,” said Maria, a 47-year-old AKMI graduate.
Through these programs, IOCC and Apostoli continue to give opportunities to those in Greece who wish to claim a better tomorrow through education and hard work.
