Jordan: Renewed Hope in Azraq Camp

Jordan, Azraq Camp

Bashar is a Syrian refugee residing in Azraq Camp, Jordan. After a shell fell on his house in Syria, Bashar suffered a stroke and was left with hemiplegia, a neurological condition leaving him unable to use his legs. He struggles to carry out daily tasks because of his disability, and now uses a wheelchair or moves by crawling on his hands.

Bashar loves sitting outside his caravan in Azraq Camp, but this area is covered in dirt, and moving around (as well as visiting the bathroom) can be challenging and unhygienic. Bashar’s mother wanted to help him, but she wasn’t sure where to turn. Fortunately, Bashar’s mother was soon referred to IOCC, where she explained his needs and a plan was quickly put into place to build Bashar a new ramp.

The installation of the ramp has made Bashar’s outdoor space and his path to the bathroom much more accessible, hygienic, and safe. Now, Bashar is able to enjoy his favorite area outside the caravan without getting dirty or damaging his hands.
