Solar Power Revives a Charity Kitchen
In July 2020, the Orthodox Youth Movement at St. Mary Orthodox Church opened a charity kitchen in Mansourieh to provide hot meals to people in need across the surrounding neighborhoods.
Unfortunately, as a result of Lebanon’s ongoing economic crisis, frequent electrical cuts, and high fuel costs, by 2021 the kitchen could no longer afford to operate—eliminating a reliable source of food for many families.
Thankfully, an IOCC program revitalized the kitchen by installing a solar-energy system, making some repairs, and installing new equipment.
Read about how your generosity has enabled the kitchen to reopen and expand to serve 130 families per week—including 74-year-old Josephine, who visits St. Mary’s every Thursday to get food for herself, her sick husband, and her chronically ill 42-year-old daughter.
