Developing Youth Service Leadership Skills
IOCC Serv-X-treme! participants prepared and served a meal to 40 guests at Our Saviour’s Housing in Minneapolis, after serving the food the students engaged in conversation with many of the guests. Our Saviour’s mission is to eliminate homelessness by proving shelter, support, and a chance to start over. (Image: IOCC)

Want to help foster a commitment to Orthodox Christian service in high-schoolers? Volunteer as an advisor at our Youth Leadership Conference this summer.
Serv-X-Treme! participants come together to gain a deeper understanding of Orthodox philanthropy and diakonia (service) through engaging in meaningful service opportunities and leadership building activities and presentations.
During the week-long conference, participants will have the opportunity to:
- forge new friendships with their Pan-Orthodox peers and counselors
- put their understanding of Orthodox philanthropy and diakonia (service) to practice with hands-on service projects
- acquire leadership skills which will benefit the Church as well as local, national and global communities
- gain a new understanding of how important giving of their time and talents is
“It was life-changing,” one participant said after 2016 Serv-X-Treme
“After attending Serv-X-Treme! [our daughter] is seeking more ways to stay connected to the Church and to Orthodox organizations while in college,” parent of a 2016 Serv-X-Treme! participant.

The 2019 Serv-X-treme! Youth Leadership Conference will be in Minneapolis, MN this summer. All participants must be officially appointed by their local Hierarch. If you are a Priest who would like to nominate a qualified student, please reach out to your Hierarch and his office (or authorized designee) can complete the nomination form in the link below. If you are a parent and would like for your child to attend, please discuss this with your priest who can then request your Hierarch for an official nomination. Please remember, the nomination form below can only be completed by either the Hierarch, his office, or an authorized designee of the Hierarch.
This conference is designed to pair an Orthodox understanding of service/diakonia/philanthropy with hands-on service opportunities. Each day will consist of time for worship, Orthodox instruction on diakonia, service in the community, reflection, and fellowship. Each year we hope to have a representative from every diocesan Bishop of the Assembly.
Requirements: Students may be male or female, but must be entering their senior year of high school in the fall of 2019. The total cost for the week is approximately $900 per participant and is being covered by IOCC donors who value the development of our Orthodox youth. In concert with an Orthodox understanding of stewardship, we ask each participant to contribute $100 toward their attendance, although limited scholarships are available for those unable to cover this cost.
