Volunteer for an Upcoming Build

As summer approaches, IOCC has several volunteer opportunities to support long-term recovery projects after disasters in the US. Communities affected by these catastrophes often face great need long after the crisis has ended, and we need volunteers to help repair and rebuild homes (no skills required!). Current opportunities:

  • August 19–24 in Houston, TX (18+ only)
  • October 21–26 in Houston, TX (18+ only)

Serv-X-treme Youth Conference Update

Serv-X-treme is IOCC’s annual youth leadership conference designed to provide Orthodox youth with a deeper understanding of Orthodox philanthropy and diakonia (service) through engaging in meaningful service opportunities and leadership building activities and presentations. This year, 25 rising high school seniors participated in the 2019 conference, which wrapped up at the beginning of August in Minneapolis, MN. Afterward, one parent shared these thoughts about their teen’s experience: “Thank you for this wonderful, life-altering experience where my son was brought closer to his faith and met other young adults who are exceptional.”

Keep checking back for more information about the 2020 Serv-X-treme Conference! Read more here.

Volunteers in Action

Dexter, MI

Thank you to the parishioners of St. Vladimir Orthodox Church for organizing and assembling 50 school kits, just in time for the new school year. Special thanks to Marina Edwards for helping to organize these ongoing kit drives for those in need throughout the year.

Back to School? Consider a Kids’ Penny Challenge!

Looking for a way to get little ones involved with charitable giving? A penny challenge is the perfect activity for elementary schoolers. Plan a kick-off assembly, split classes into teams to create some friendly competition, and encourage students to bring their spare change. At the end of your penny challenge, hold a kit drive—or simply announce the winners and award prizes! Contact an Outreach Coordinator at 410.243.9820 or outreach@iocc.org to plan yours today.
