Our Work is Not for the Faint Hearted

In recognition of National Preparedness Month, we would like to thank the 1,300 plus IOCC volunteers who have, throughout the years, dedicated over 40,000 hours of hard work to help more than 250 families rebuild after their homes were damaged by natural disasters.

Volunteers have served in places like Colorado, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, New Jersey, Oklahoma, and the Gulf Coast, putting their faith into action in a rewarding way.

IOCC programs for US-based volunteers include:

• Emergency Action Teams: Help people clear debris and muck out their homes after flooding or other damage
• The Orthodox Homefront: Orthodox parishes that have prepared for disasters and have graciously opened their doors to the community in times of disaster, acting as distribution centers, shelters, and soup kitchens
• The Orthodox Frontline: Specially trained Orthodox clergy and lay responders who are on the “front line” when disaster strikes to provide comfort and hope, and to remind people that with God’s grace they will be able to resume their lives
• Home-Build Teams: Spearheaded by a specially trained team lead, these volunteers help neighbors in need by rebuilding their homes after disasters strike
