Greece: Fire Response Includes Long-Lasting Support

June 26, 2023

IOCC delivered a total of 10 EKG machines to two health centers on northern Evia as part of its larger response helping communities on the island after devastating fires.

Though the news cycle has moved on, IOCC continues serving communities on Evia, Greece, as they rebuild after fires destroyed so many homes and businesses in summer 2021.

As part of its larger long-term fire response, and with support from Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, IOCC recently delivered five electrocardiogram (EKG) machines each to two health centers in fire-affected municipalities of Istiaia and Mantoudi, on northern Evia.

The new machines will significantly upgrade the level of care available at these municipal health centers, which provide crucial services in two areas that lost a great deal in the fires. In fact, the Director of the Health Center of Istiaia told IOCC staff that the facility has never had equipment of this caliber before.

Support like this will improve the quality of medical care—and quality of life—for residents as they rebuild their lives and livelihoods on Evia.
