Saint George School in Bsalim, Mount Lebanon, was founded in October 1988 under the Orthodox Archdiocese of Mount Lebanon. A community fixture since then, the school educates hundreds of students ages 3 to 18 each year. Budget constraints, however, left the school badly in need of updates to its restrooms. Repairs were needed to address leaky faucets, a water-damaged ceiling, outdated and inefficient toilets, and a poorly functioning handwashing station.
This year, with support from IOCC, the school’s restrooms were transformed into bright, hygienic spaces, including a completely new handwashing area. Other renovations included electrical work, tiling, and painting, plus repairs to water damage and construction to prevent future leaks.
Now, Saint George’s 470 students have brand new, up-to-date restroom facilities. Water flows smoothly from the taps, toilets flush properly, and the ceiling has been repaired. There’s also a dedicated well-lit space for handwashing that includes large mirrors.
His Eminence Metropolitan Silouan of Mount Lebanon visited Saint George last month, blessing both the renovated spaces and the school itself ahead of the new school year.
“We as a school are grateful for the funding,” said Saint George’s director, Ms. Daaboul, who has been advocating for restroom improvements for several years. “IOCC’s renovations of the facility were not only perfect but also timely, before the launch of the school year. It serves as a contribution to the education sector which is operating tirelessly to bring up cultivated generations, thus creating opportunities for their success in the future.”
