Greece: Medical Supplies Delivered on Crete

August 24, 2020

Present for the delivery were representatives from the Holy Archdiocese of Crete, the Pancretan Association of America, Greece’s 7th Health Region, and the region of Crete.

On July 22, 2020, IOCC completed its most recent delivery of medical supplies to Crete. A 40-foot shipping container full of essentials was unloaded in Iraklion for distribution to public hospitals and health centers across the island.

This shipment was made possible by generous contributions from the John L. Santikos Charitable Foundation Fund of the San Antonio Area Foundation and from the Pancretan Association of America. This is the seventh container of medical supplies that IOCC has delivered to Crete.

Part of IOCC’s ongoing gifts-in-kind program, and an important component of IOCC’s flagship Give for Greece programming, this delivery represents efforts to meet the immediate needs of people facing hardship in Greece, where the long-running economic crisis is still felt in everyday life—particularly amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Since 2012, IOCC has delivered a total of 42 containers of medical supplies to all the health regions of Greece.

Working closely with Church partner Apostoli, the humanitarian arm of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Athens, IOCC continues offering not only medical supplies that serve thousands, but also food for families in need and training and equipment for small businesses throughout Greece.
