Jordan: IOCC Rehabilitates Playground Infrastructure

February 3, 2025

Throughout 2024, IOCC successfully supported the enhancement of the educational infrastructure of Greek Orthodox Patriarchate Schools (GOPS) in Jordan. As part of this support, IOCC conducted rehabilitation and maintenance work at eight school locations, aiming to create a safer, healthier, more inclusive educational environment.

Included in this work was the installation of benches for resting, canopies to protect students from the elements, and artificial grass to keep students from injuring themselves on hard surfaces.

In addition to school rehabilitation work, IOCC supported the installation of educational toys and transformed an underutilized outdoor space into a learning opportunity for children. At a kindergarten in Amman, IOCC created an urban traffic simulation on the playground. As a result, children can learn about safety and the precautions to take when living in an urban city, through play. This includes learning about traffic lights and rules to follow when crossing the road. The principal of the Amman kindergarten noted the impact on students, saying, “The new traffic park helps kids interact with each other, teaching them to respect and adhere to the law and creating a responsible generation.”
