Ukraine: New Appliances for Displaced Elderly in Zakarpattia

February 1, 2026

Oleksandra (not her real name) is the head of an institution in Zakarpattia that houses and serves elderly people displaced by the current conflict in Ukraine. The institution has grown since the conflict started, receiving elderly persons from throughout Ukraine who have no family to look after them. They now house a total of 320 people.

“The main challenge we faced was a lack of sufficient home and kitchen appliances to accommodate the increasing number of individuals in our home. Additionally, the older appliances we had were of poor quality and frequently broke down,” Oleksandra said.

Fortunately for Oleksandra, her institution was put into contact with an IOCC-supported project which provided them with all-new appliances, including washing machines, dryers, and ovens.

Oleksandra expressed her sincere gratitude to IOCC, “These appliances have enabled us to provide better quality care to our residents. We no longer experience breakdowns with the washing machines, allowing us to maintain hygiene standards and provide clean, fresh laundry every day.”
