Ukraine: Helping Survivors Heal

January 19, 2024

This small medical device, donated by a partner and recently delivered by IOCC to clinics and hospitals in Ukraine, is helping medical professionals treat injured people more quickly and effectively as they cope with the effects of ongoing conflict.

When ordinary people are caught in conflict, physical injuries become a terrible everyday reality. This is certainly the case in Ukraine.

With survivors fleeing to western Ukraine seeking safety, many of them with burns and other serious injuries, healthcare providers there face shortages in equipment and trained personnel. To help medical professionals in Ukraine effectively treat people, IOCC partnered with MDM Wound Ventures to deliver an innovative medical device to hospitals and clinics. Specially designed to quickly clean wounds and minimize infections in a process called debridement, the device will help people heal and recover more quickly.

The new device, which MDM Wound Ventures donated and IOCC shipped and delivered, allows healthcare professionals to perform expert sharp debridement with very little training, and to do so much faster than traditional methods. This means that more people can have their injuries treated as they face the ugly reality of ongoing conflict.

Medical supplies are an important part of IOCC’s larger gifts-in-kind program, and this delivery is ensuring that more survivors in Ukraine can access the care they need amid terrible circumstances.
